Qais Ahmad will be taking Rashid Khan's place; in addition, Naveed Zadran gets called up after making an outstanding Test debut. Afghanistan's three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka begins in Pallekele on February 9; Rashid Khan isn't anticipated to recover in time.

The Afghanistan star spinner underwent back surgery towards the end of the previous year, and he hasn't taken part in a significant competition since November of the ODI World Cup in 2023. Qais Ahmad, who has only made one ODI looks for Afghanistan, will replace Rashid in Sri Lanka.

Playing for the SA20's Durban Super Giants, Noor Ahmad will rejoin the national squad and forego the league's final stages.

Only as a substitute, Abdul Rahman was listed, and for the ODI series against Sri Lanka, Afghanistan's World Cup player Najibullah Zadran wasn't included. Fast bowler Mohammad Saleem was sidelined due to a strain of the according to an ACB press release.

Gulbadin Naib, an all-around player, was called up to the ODI squad after showing his powerful hitting in the most recent Twenty20 International series against India. Among the fifteen players on the team was Fareed Ahmad. Both took part as reserve players in the 2023 ODI World Cup.

Seamer Naveed Zadran was recruited to the ODI team after he made an impact in his Test debut against Sri Lanka. He has taken eight wickets within his six List A matches thus far, but he hasn't earned any caps for the Indian domestic cricket team.

Before the teams head to Dambulla, for the three-match Twenty20 International series, Pallekele will host all three One-Day Internationals. This will be Afghanistan's first ODI assignment following the World Cup.

The Hashmatullah Shahidi team consists of Rahmat Shah (vice-captain), Ibrahim Zadran, Riaz Hassan, Azmatullah Omarzai, Mohammad Nabi, Gulbadin Naib, Qais Ahmad, Noor Ahmad, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Naveed Zadran, and Farid Ahmad.

The reserve players are Bilal Sami, Abdul Rahman, Shahidullah, and Sharafuddin Ashraf.
