He claims that playing attacking cricket for England has forced him to
concentrate on both taking wickets and limiting hitters.
In Visakhapatnam, India's left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav expressed how
much he relished his first experience with England's Baseball strategy, which
not only increased opportunities for wicket-taking but also forced bowlers to
consider restricting hitters in Test cricket.
"Before the third Test against England begins in Rajkot on February 15, I
would say that you're not used to teams attacking you with this kind of approach
[Bazball], but it also involves you a lot more," Kuldeep remarked.
"Being a spinner, helps you concentrate more on your bowling technique
and style.
"Normally, when you play a Test match, your only
concern is how you want to get the ball out of the bat, not about the batters
attacking you. However, this time, the strategy is different because they are
attacking, so you also need to think through ways to limit them. You have
numerous opportunities to take wickets when they play shots. It's captivating.
I really enjoyed the last game, which was my first [against Bazball] and it's
beneficial for cricket."
Kuldeep had only appeared in nine Tests since making his debut in March 2017
before the Visakhapatnam Test. It was his first in more than half a year.
India took a 143-run lead in the first innings thanks to three of Kuldeep's
four wickets, helping them tie the five-Test series 1-1.
Kuldeep grinned and responded, "It's been good,"
to the question of finally getting a chance in Test cricket. In every test I've
taken, I've done well. It feels good to see the stats, and I have three
five-fors. I'm overjoyed."
If the pitches in Rajkot continue to be as good as they have been in the first
two Tests of this series, Kuldeep may be able to hold onto his spot in the
starting eleven even if Ravindra Jadeja makes a comeback. In Visakhapatnam,
Kuldeep was more productive than Axar Patel due to his accuracy and extra
bounce.
When asked if he thought he would play in Rajkot, he
replied, "I'm not sure of my position." "I will be overjoyed if
given the chance. I don't give it much thought as to whether or not I'm
playing. I simply enjoy my day and keep up my diligent work. In a team game, the combination is so important that it matters. Just like that."
There was no need to remind Kuldeep of his 2018 Test match against the West
Indies in Rajkot, where he took five wickets.
He responded, "It'll be a batting wicket," when
asked about the surface for the next Test matchup with England. It does not
guarantee that 700–800 runs will be scored. It will be a valuable wicket. It
will be a live wicket that is beneficial for cricket, not a rank turner."
Why has the character of pitches for this series changed so drastically?
"I haven't played on rank turners, I don't know what the approach or thought is, it's a team management decision," Kuldeep stated. Of course, everyone enjoys watching quality cricket. I'm not sure if I'll get the chance, but I like playing cricket regardless of the situation—flat wicket or rank turner. In my opinion, batting is just as significant as spin bowling. Another aspect of the game is fast bowling. It benefits cricket. Though hopefully you'll see it [laughs], it's not like you'll only see rank turners."
