Gazi Ashraf Hossain, the newly appointed chief selector for Bangladesh, pledges impartial decision-making

People believed the former committee had made decisions with the head coach or other high-ranking BCB officials in mind.
While Gazi Ashraf Hossain is pleased that his panel can communicate with the players and team management, he stated that the selectors' autonomy in making choices is crucial. Ashraf was forced to confront these issues due to the belief held by his predecessor Minhajul Abedin that members of his selection committee had given in to pressure from the head coach or higher-ranking BCB officials.
"I have no desire to discuss the past procedure," declared Ashraf, a former captain of Bangladesh who participated in the team during the late 1980s and early 1990s. "I addressed the board. This role will require independence. The coach, Chandika Hathurusingha, and the captain, Najmul Hossain Shanto, will participate in the conversation. We'll make an effort to adhere to international norms. I'll communicate with the players. Of the players, the majority I know. Most of the new players are unknown to me. I'll make an effort to interact with them. It will take time for us to build a relationship. Working freely can be very enjoyable, in my opinion. There are no barriers to entry or exit."

Former BCB director Ashraf also mentioned the need for Bangladesh to have backup players available, mentioning the batting order changes that occurred during last year's ODI World Cup. Senior and junior cricket players, he said, needed a clear path. "Of course, we'll choose teams based on the opposition and the environment, but I also want to use data in our work. I want to be mindful of player age and load and injury management. At some point, a player has to leave, so we need to make sure the route is clear.

"Some players travel with the team, but I've noticed that they don't get to play. We need to keep an eye on those players and determine why they were not allowed to play. After selecting the top eleven or twelve players, we will add three more. With my captain and coach, I want to have a clear idea of the batting order. In certain places, we've witnessed a lot of ups and downs. We have to have a backup player ready in case a player doesn't perform well. He stated, "We want players to participate in domestic cricket as well.

Another question posed to Ashraf was whether he was prepared for the backlash on social media that now accompanies his role as a Bangladesh selector. "Minhajul Abedin Nannu and Habibul Bashar congratulated me immediately after I was appointed in this role," he responded. "We played in front of sizable crowds when Nannu and I played domestic cricket. In either case, we suffered abuse—from opponents' supporters when we prevailed, or from our own when we lost. Pressure is everything in cricket—from media coverage to opposition bowling and run targets. It will be alright if we have a clear consciousness."

Ashraf stated his future goals and expressed awareness of his new duties. "After Covid, I've received a few offers to collaborate with the board. I didn't pursue those since my mother wasn't feeling well at the time. As most of you are aware, I served as a board director. "It is a totally different responsibility now. I have also represented Bangladesh in five ICC meetings during the caretaker government in 2007." I work for the payroll. I received a cordial welcome to this position, which will be on par with that of a board director chosen by the constitution. It made it possible for me to take over as chairman of the selection committee."
