For
the first eight group-stage games, Australia's all-around player will be
available.
Daniel Sams, an Australia all-rounder, has signed a new contract with Essex for the
Vitality T20 Blast. It is anticipated that he will be available for the initial
eight games in May and June.
Sams,
31, who helped Essex finish as runners-up last season and won the Blast MVP
award, will be back in Chelmsford for the third summer in a row.
Anthony
McGrath, the head coach of Essex, stated, "We're obviously delighted to
have re-signed Daniel for the Blast this year." "He showed us in no
uncertain terms what he's capable of last summer, and he was an instrumental
part of our team, so we're looking forward to seeing him again for the first
block of T20 games."
Sams
led Essex in runs and wickets in 2023 and nearly got his team over the finish
line in the championship match, finishing last man out for 45 off 26 in a
14-run loss to Somerset.
Despite
having won ten Twenty20 International caps for Australia, his last game was in
2022, and he is not anticipated to play in the World Cup, which is held in the
Caribbean and the USA in June. However, he is only able to participate in the
first part of the Blast group stage because of a conflict with Major League
Cricket, which begins on July 4.
"I'm
really excited to be heading back to Essex, especially after the year we had in
2023," Sams stated. "Chelmsford is an amazing stadium with a great
community of ardent supporters. When the stands are full under the floodlights,
you can feel that passion."
"I
loved being able to contribute to the success we had last season, and the team,
in my opinion, is good enough to have a strong chance of going one better and
lifting some silverware."
