Rabada departs the IPL early due to soft tissue illness in his lower limb

He is constantly followed by the CSA medical team and is anticipated to be available for the T20 World Cup.

Kagiso Rabada returned home from the IPL on Sunday evening with an infection in the soft tissue of his lower limb, but he is likely to play the full T20 World Cup.

Rabada played 11 matches for the Punjab Kings, taking 11 wickets at an economy rate of 8.85, but will miss the team's final two games. With PBKS out of the playoffs, Rabada was allowed to return to South Africa to meet with an expert. According to a CSA statement, he is being "closely monitored by the medical team" in preparation for the World Cup.

Rabada's presence is particularly significant for South Africa because he is the only black African player named to the 15-man provisional roster, which has sparked considerable controversy. The CSA currently has national team targets that require them to deploy six players of color in each XI on average throughout a season, with at least two of them being black Africans. South Africa will miss out on the T20 World Cup, where they have six players of color but only one black African. Rabada must play every game to ensure they stay within the overall aim. South Africa will have the opportunity to improve its average during the 2024-25 season.

Lungi Ngidi is the only other black African player who was in realistic contention for the squad and has been named a traveling reserve. South Africa's other fast bowlers include Anrich Nortje, who has returned from a nine-month absence due to a stress fracture, Gerald Coetzee, Ottniel Baartman, and Marco Jansen.
