"I would put all my eggs in the Test basket for the moment," he remarked while detailing his time management.
Travis Head may have taken this year's IPL by storm, but he wants to limit his
participation in T20 leagues to two yearly events and focus on Test cricket.
"This has been my first year in IPL for me in quite a while (since 2017),"
Head stated to PTI. "I would put all my eggs in the Test basket for a moment, I
will continue to do that."
Head, who has had a spectacular previous ten months, has been India's enemy,
scoring centuries in both the World Test Championship and ODI World Cup finals.
He has 533 runs for the Sunrisers Hyderabad IPL 2024, forming an
excellent opening partnership with uncapped Indian Abhishek Sharma.
Despite becoming a sought-after T20 standout, the 30-year-old
is careful about how he fits franchise-league obligations into his
schedule, prioritizing Tests.
"After Tests, I will pick formats, and see in which different ways I am
available for selection," Head stated. "At this point, I'd like to
return to the IPL next year. I plan to play Major League Cricket in the USA
after the World T20 World Cup this year, but my priorities may shift in the
coming year. Next year, Test cricket returns, we tour the West Indies, and I
doubt I'll play for many other franchises."
"Look, when I conclude my Test career in a few years,
there will most likely be a few more possibilities to play franchise cricket.
But at the moment, I would want to confine it to a couple of franchises and
[concentrate on] Test cricket."
Despite coming off a whirlwind ten months in which he had to battle a hand
injury that jeopardized his position in the ODI World Cup, as well as the short
lead-up to the T20 World Cup following the IPL, Head isn't concerned with
workload management.
"I'll be home in a few days when we finish the IPL.
Spend two to three days at home, then travel to the West Indies with family to
start over. Look, we're incredibly blessed to be able to do what we do, and I
won't be doing it forever. So [we] strive to make the most of it while we can;
we are fortunate to be well cared for."
"I know in a few years, I can retire and do nothing, I will have plenty of
time to look back and wish I was back on tour, I would like to be in the
moment, keep batting through, and stay in the moment, enjoying the moment."
