KKR has brought in 16-year-old Afghan offspinner Allah
Ghazanfar.
Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Afghanistan's mystery spinner, has been forced out of the
Kolkata Knight Riders' IPL 2024 campaign due to injury. He will be replaced in
the squad by his countryman, Allah Ghazanfar, aged 16.
The Rajasthan Royals have signed South African left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj
as a replacement for fast bowler Prasidh Krishna, who is recovering
from surgery on his left proximal quadriceps tendon.
Ghazanfar, a mystery spinner, made his international debut earlier this month
in the ODI series against Ireland but went wicketless in both games. He was
Afghanistan's second-highest wicket-taker in the finished Under-19 World Cup,
with eight wickets at an average of 16.75. Ghazanfar has played six List A
games and three T20s. He joins KKR for a basic fee of INR 20 lakhs.
Maharaj, a South African veteran, has played 50 Tests, 44 ODIs, and 27 T20Is,
taking 237 wickets in international cricket. He has also competed in T20
competitions all around the world, including for Durban's Super Giants in the
SA20 and Fortune Barishal in the Bangladesh Premier League. Maharaj, who
claimed 15 wickets in 13 matches during this year's SA20, landed in India
earlier this month to practice with the Lucknow Super Giants club.
KKR, who began their season with a four-run victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad,
will face Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Friday. The Royals also started their
season on a winning note against the Super Giants.
