In their match against the world's best side, Bangladesh put up a
strong fight with the ball at first but lost quickly. Australia 213 for 7
(Sutherland 58*, King 46*, Nahida 2-27, Khatun 2-45) defeated Bangladesh 95
(Nigar 27, Gardner 3-22, Garth 2-26) by 118 runs.
Australia was victorious in the first ODI against Bangladesh, winning by 118
runs thanks to the intervention of Annabel Sutherland, the country's new golden
girl.
On a slow and moving field, Australia had fallen to 48 for 4
early on. Sutherland produced a methodical unbeaten 58 to take her team to 213
for 7. She scored runs in a 67-run eighth-wicket partnership with Alana King,
who hit five sixes and scorched 46 not out from 31 balls, including 28 in a
29-run final over.
After that, Australia managed to bowl out Bangladesh for 95, thanks to bowling
stats of 3 for 22 from Ashleigh Gardner and an outstanding run-out from Phoebe
Litchfield.
However, Sutherland, who is 22 years old, is still producing
for Australia. In the Ashes last year, the all-rounder scored her first-ever
Test century while batting at No. 8 for Australia. She followed it up with a
double in Perth last month against South Africa.
After Beth Mooney and Gardner started to steadie the ship for Australia on
Thursday, she was more composed. Before Sutherland upped the ante late with
King, who four times in the last over lifted and swept legspinner Fahima Khatun
over the rope, Sutherland hit 19 from her first 35 balls.
After the game, King remarked, "Annabel batted really
well, along with Beth Mooney and Ash Gardner." "They laid the
groundwork... The last over was just a little bit of fun. We were aiming for
more than 200, and Annabel allowed me complete control. We could go on as many
runs as we like, and I'm happy to have made some connections."
Additionally, King maintained control of the ball with 1 for 12 from her 10
overs after Megan Schutt struck with the second ball of Bangladesh's innings.
Additionally, she got the crucial wicket of right-hand batsman Sobhana Mostary
for 17 runs, bowling her sweeping.
Then three run-outs made sure Australia wouldn't lose by a shock. The best of them was Litchfield's attempt to remove Fahima, diving to her right at cover to result in a direct hit and remove the batter for one.
Four overs later, Mooney struck again, this time directly at one stump, which helped her run out Ritu Moni at the non-striker's end on one. And the game was all but over when Sutherland ran in to run out an unprepared Nigar Sultana for 27 after the Bangladesh captain had failed to slide her bat in.
