The head coach and captain are also granted positions within
the panel.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has restructured its national women's
selection committee, increasing its membership to seven. Mohsin Naqvi, the
chairman of the PCB, made the decision following Pakistan's 3-0 ODI series loss
to the West Indies at home earlier this week.
According to a PCB release issued on Thursday, former Pakistan internationals
Asmavia Iqbal and Marina Iqbal have been retained by the previous screening
committee. They will be joined on the committee by Abdul Razzaq and Asad Shafiq, both members of the men's national selection committee, as well as
former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Batool Fatima. The seven-member panel will
also include the head coach and captain, who are now Mohtashim Rasheed and Nida
Dar. Meanwhile, Saleem Jaffar, a former fast bowler, has left the committee.
The new selection committee's first responsibility will be to choose a squad
for Pakistan's forthcoming tour to England, which includes three T20Is and
three ODIs from May 11 to May 29. The three ODIs are part of the ICC ODI
women's championship 2022-25.
Pakistan is presently ranked fifth in the women's championship standings, with
eight wins and 13 losses in 21 ODI matches. Australia, South Africa, England,
and New Zealand all have more points than them. The top five teams in the
event, together with hosts India, will qualify straight for the 2025 ODI
Women's World Cup. The remaining teams will compete in a qualifying
competition.
Pakistan lost the first ODI against the West Indies by 113
runs. They then lost by two wickets in the second game and by 88 runs in the
third ODI. Hayley Matthews was the series' star, scoring 140*, 44, and 141 for
325 runs and an average of 162.50. She was also the joint leading wicket-taker,
alongside Dar, with six wickets.
Pakistan will now compete in a five-match T20I series against the West Indies,
which begins on April 26 and runs until May 3. All matches will be played in
Karachi. They will next go to England, where the first T20I is set to take
place on May 11 in Birmingham.
