Neser will
also play a part in the County Championship, taking over for Kyle Abbott and
Muhammad Abbas.
Hampshire has signed Australian Seamer Michael Neser for their opening eight T20 Blast games of the season. He will also be available to cover for Kyle Abbott and Mohammad Abbas in a couple of County Championship games.
Nathan
Ellis, a countryman of Neser, has been a revelation for the team the last two
seasons and spearheaded Hampshire's attack during their 2022 title run. But
Giles White, director of cricket, is more likely to turn to Neser, who is not
in Australia's T20 plans, this summer due to a clash with the T20 World Cup.
"Nathan
had a very positive impact on the team and we are confident that Michael will
do the same," White said. "He has a great reputation as a team player
and brings quality to all disciplines and formats. Since he is accustomed to
English conditions, perhaps he can begin working immediately."
Neser, a
former player for Glamorgan, claimed 12 wickets in the Big Bash League victory
over the Brisbane Heat earlier this month. In the field, he contributed with
several outstanding deep catches and a vital 64 not out, which helped the Perth
Scorchers lose and move on to the home qualifying final.
"I
am very excited to have joined Hampshire Hawks for this year's Vitality Blast
and can't wait to join up with the squad," Neser stated. "Utilita
Bowl [Hampshire's home] looks to be an amazing place to play cricket and
hopefully I can contribute to more success on the pitch."
After the T20 World Cup, Afghanistan's Naveen-ul-Haq will take Neser's place for the second half of the Blast's group stage, according to BBC Solent.
