With
Glenn Maxwell's resignation, Stoinis is expected to stay with the Stars through
the end of the 2026–2027 season and is a strong contender for captain.
MarcusStoinis, an all-arounder from Australia, has extended his contract with the
Melbourne Stars for three more years, which will keep him with the team until
the end of the BBL16 in 2026–2027.
The
Stars had several players whose contracts were about to expire, with
Stoinis being the most well-known. Other teams were interested in signing him,
particularly the Perth Scorchers because he is based in Perth and represents
Western Australia in domestic cricket.
After playing three games for the Scorchers in 2012–13, Stoinis moved to the Stars the following season and has since played in 98 BBL games. Next season, he will join Glenn Maxwell as the second player in Stars history to have played 100 games for the team.
With
Maxwell stepping down as team captain at the end of the previous campaign,
Stoinis is also a strong contender to take over as captain.
The
all-rounder hopes to make the T20 World Cup squad after being selected for
Australia's T20I team for the forthcoming West Indies series. However, he
stated that he would be playing more T20 franchise cricket in the coming years
after being left out of the ODI squad, and it looks unlikely that he will sign
a new central contract with Cricket Australia for the upcoming season.
His
IPL team, the Lucknow Super Giants, owns Durban's Super Giants, where he is
currently playing in the SA20. Last year, he participated in the US Major
League Cricket tournament as a player for the San Francisco Unicorns, a team
managed by officials from Cricket Victoria, the same organization that manages
the Stars.
